The module operates on the principle of Inductive Coupling. The circular traces on the PCB act as an antenna, creating an electromagnetic field. When a passive tag (like the included card or keychain) enters this field, it draws enough power to "wake up" and transmit its data back to the module.
Why it’s an Authentication Essential:
• Read/Write Capability: Unlike basic barcode scanners, the RC522 can update the data on a tag. You can use this to create "credit" systems where a user’s card balance is updated directly on the chip.
• MIFARE S50 Compatibility: The included tags have 1KB of EEPROM memory divided into sectors. Each sector can be protected by a unique Secret Key (A/B), making the system highly resistant to unauthorized cloning.
• Flexible Communication: While SPI is the most common interface due to its high speed (up to 10Mbps), the module can also be configured for I2C or UART, allowing it to fit into almost any pin configuration.
• Built-in Crypto1: The MFRC522 chip includes hardware support for the CRYPTO1 encryption algorithm, ensuring that the communication between the tag and the reader remains secure.

• Operating Frequency: 13.56 MHz (Standard High Frequency).
• Voltage: 3.3V ONLY. Connecting the VCC pin to 5V will permanently damage the module.
• Range: Effective up to 3cm – 5cm, depending on the antenna quality and the tag size.
• Low Power Modes: Features a "Hard Power Down" and "Sleep" mode (< 80µA) for battery-operated smart locks.
