At its core, the sensor uses an internal coil to generate a high-frequency electromagnetic field at its tip. When a metallic object (like steel or aluminium) enters this field, Eddy currents are induced in the metal. These currents drain energy from the sensor's magnetic field, causing the internal circuit to "trip" and send a signal.
