The module features a specialized U-shaped sensor containing an IR Emitter (blue/clear) and an IR Phototransistor (black). Unlike standard proximity sensors that point straight ahead, these components are angled toward each other to focus on a specific point just a few millimetres in front of the sensor.

Why it’s a Robotics Foundation:
• Colour Sensitivity: It is specifically tuned to detect the difference between a reflective surface (like white paper) and an absorptive surface (like black electrical tape). This makes it the primary tool for path-tracing logic.
