Because it is a non-polarized component, you can install it in either direction without worrying about positive or negative terminals. Its simple two-pin through-hole design makes it a staple for breadboarding and permanent PCB projects alike.

Why it’s a Circuit Foundation:
• Passive Nature: It doesn't require its own power supply to "run"; it simply changes its physical property (resistance) in response to the environment.
• Massive Resistance Range: In total darkness, an LDR can reach a "Dark Resistance" of 1MΩ to 20MΩ, effectively acting like an open switch. In bright sunlight, that resistance can drop to as low as some hundreds of ohms.
• Spectrally Sensitive: Most 5mm LDRs are tuned to peak sensitivity at around 540nm, which is almost identical to the green-yellow light the human eye perceives best.
• Durability: The sensor is typically encased in a ceramic package with a clear epoxy coating, making it resistant to heat and common environmental wear.

• Size: Standard 5mm diameter.
• Dark Resistance: >= 1MΩ
• Light Resistance: 10-20 kΩ @ 10 lux (Standard room light).
• Max Voltage: Typically up to 150V DC, allowing it to be used in some AC-driven light-trigger circuits (with caution).

Best For:
The raw 5mm LDR is the primary choice for solar-powered garden lights, night-vision triggers for security cameras, analog light meters, and optical "theremins" (music generators controlled by hand shadows).
